Nikita Kakar, DVM, DACVIM

(SAIM)-Internal Medicine

Dr. Kakar graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016, completed a rotating internship at Friendship Hospital for Small Animals in 2017, and completed her small animal internal medicine residency at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in 2020.

She always loved pets while growing up, which led her to veterinary school. Her internship along with veterinary school helped her discover the importance of critical thinking and a holistic approach, so she pursued a residency in internal medicine. Dr. Kakar’s training has enabled her to practice evidence-based medicine that seeks to not only identify and treat the underlying cause of a patient’s ailment, but also improve their quality of life. She enjoys all aspects of internal medicine, but her clinical areas of interest include nephrology, urology, endocrinology, and hematology.

In her spare time, Dr. Kakar enjoys spending time with her husband, son and Lab mix named Phyn. When not at work, she also loves gardening, yoga, cooking, and hiking.
